Can you install slate tile flooring over ceramic flooring or do you need to remove existing floor tiles? | |
Answers:
1The preparation job will be just as hard as ripping them up as you will have to strip them first to remove any traces of oil or polish etc. Then you would have to roughen them up by chipping them or sanding them so that the cement you use to lay your slate with will stick to it.I did my whole house in slate.Because slate is rough you have to be sure to put plenty of cement under them especialy if they are slightly hollow underneath otherwise they clunk when you walk on them with hard shoes (its called drumming)The other downside of slate is you have problems with all your furniture, fridges dinning tables, chairs etc--everything wobbles and you have to put little pads under everything.Another is maintanance, you seal them and they look great then the sealer wears off and you re apply more.then you think they look grotty and strip them only to find you cant get down into the little crevices.best of luck.
